About Harvest Gardens

If you like to garden, why not join the Northern Hills Community Garden Group? Many users of community gardens see the following benefits:
  • Meeting new people or spending time with old friends
  • Being physically active, while spending time outdoors
  • Growing fresh, wholesome produce for your family or others
  • Establishing flowers, shrubs and trees for the enjoyment and benefit of the community
A number of interested community members have gotten together with the objective of establishing community gardens in Northern Hills. Our initial planning meeting took place on March 11th 2010, after onths of informal discussions, where we discussed our first community garden site to be located in Harvest Hills, south of the lake. During this vision session we worked out our vision and purpose below.

Our Purpose/Vision:

The Northern Hills Community Garden will bring together neighbours, providing a community social gathering place that will be peaceful and aesthetically pleasing. The Garden will:
  • Promote a sense of community based on a sense of shared responsibility and team work
  • Provide a source of locally grown organic food to various users and user groups
  • Promote education on organic gardening methods, food, flowers, trees and shrubs
  • Be a place to learn, build fellowship among neighbours and celebrate accomplishment
In the picture below we have highlighted the location of the garden. It is located at the west end of Harvest Lake Drive NE.

Our proposed plan has been refferred to as the 'molar' because of the shape and contours of our land allotment. But as they say a picture is worth a thousand words, so check it out below.
